Galungan

We are celebrating today at the luxury hotel in Alicante Asia Gardens Hotel & Thai Spa. We are travelling to Bali to attend one of its most important festivals: Galungan. Are you joining us?

Galungan is one of the most important religious ceremonies in Indonesia. This ceremony marks the time when the ancestral spirits visit the Earth. It celebrates the victory of dharma over adharma.

The ceremonies include prayers, dances and food and flower offerings, which are prepared the previous days to the festival. The offerings are exhibited in the entrance of the houses and in the streets, on the divine altars, which are made of bamboo and highly decorated.

Galungan takes place every 210 days and lasts for 10 days. The last day of celebration is known as Kuningan, and it is when spirits go back to their celestial dwelling.

During Galungan, people wear white costumes and do the previously mentioned food offerings.

This celebration is the perfect chance for tourists to go in depth into Hindu culture and tradition.
