Fuji Five Lakes is the name of the area located at the base of Mount Fuji, in Japan. The name of Fuji Five Lakes comes from the five lakes that were formed by previous eruptions of Mount Fuji. They are considered one of the main Japanese tourist attractions as well as one of the best fishing spots.

Which are the five lakes?

Lake Kawaguchi. Located in the middle of the other lakes, it is the most famous of the five lakes. Images of this lake are usually used to promote the Fuji Five Lakes area. It is the only lake in the Fuji Five Lakes area that has an island.

Lake Sai. It is known for being the lake whose wetsern side shares its banks with the popular Aokigahara forest.

Lake Motosu. It is the deepest lake of thea area and the ninth deepest lake of Japan, at 140 metres. It was formed from the lava flowing across what is now Aokigahara forest, along with Lake Sai and Lake Shōji.

Lake Shōji. It is the smallest of the five lakes. Nowadays, it still contains remnants of lava. Its northern bank offers a spectacular view of Mount Fuji.

Lake Yamanaka. This is the largest of the five lakes and the third highest lake in Japan. It stands at 980 meters above sea level.
