Weh Island

Warm temperatures don´t leave us at the luxury hotel in Alicante Asia Gardens Hotel & Thai Spa. As every Thursday, we leave our Asian paradise in the Mediterranean behind to take you to Indonesia where the incredible Weh Island is waiting for us.

Pulau Weh is a small active volcanic island located in the northwest of Sumatra, in the Andaman Sea. Known also as Samang, the name of its capital, it represents the Kilometre Zero out of the more than 17,000 islands forming the Indonesian archipelago.

The Andaman Sea has a varied biodiversity; that´s why what attracts tourists the most to the island is its submarine world. The coral reefs surrounding Pulau Weh are considered one of the most beautiful in the world.

The waters around Pulau Weh are perfect for snorkeling and diving. Some of the most famous diving spots in the island are: Batee Meuduro pinnacle, where we can find important pelagic species such as sharks; Batee Toking, with hillsides covered by sea fans, gorgonians and sponges; Pantee Aneuk Seuk, with a fall of 70 metres where we can find more pelagic species such as pompanos.

Water sports lovers can also enjoy diving down to a depth of 9 metres and delight in thermal waters coming from a submarine volcano.

Dry season, from April to October, is the best time of the year to visit Pulau Weh. The climatological conditions offer divers a better visibility.
