Vat Phou

We can´t imagine a better plan to say goodbye to November than keep discovering the treasures the Asian continent hides. Today from the luxury hotel in Alicante Asia Gardens Hotel & Thai Spa we are travelling to Laos to get to know the Vat Phou ruins.

Vat Phou is a ruined Khmer Hindu temple complex. These are one of the most important ruins in Laos. They are located at the base of Mount Phu Kao, in Champasak Province.

The history of Vat Phou dates back more than 1000 years. This religious complex is built on six terraces, which are divided in three levels. People access to the last level thanks to the stairway crossing the area. The higher you get through the temple; you are able to contemplate the magnificence of Vat Phou. There are two barays, which fill up of water and flowers, which give the complex a more exotic appearance.

Precisely, people can access the main sanctuary, which is dedicated to Shiva, through the highest terrace. The main sanctuary enshrines the linga, the representation of Shiva. Here is also a big stone slab, the triad, consisting of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
